A sunroom is a structure with a roof that is glass-enclosed. A sunroom is more akin to a living room, just with a better view. Since it is enclosed, this will most likely necessitate adding air conditioning for the summer months and even possibly heating for the colder winter months.

As to which option is less expensive, labor and materials alone make a sunroom the more costly of the two options. Since it's more like a finished room, you may want to tile the floors, and air conditioning and heat will most likely be required. Another thing to keep in mind is that in some places, adding a heated space to your home may increase your taxes, so be aware of that possibility. 

With a screened porch option, the living room is inside the home, and the porch is outside it. It makes it a bit nicer and more special when you can entertain friends outside on a warm summer night rather than being kept inside. And think about not having to stay indoors to watch football on a beautiful Sunday afternoon in Autumn. A sunroom allows you to add additional living space to your home.

Sunrooms are beautiful and can be excellent rooms to have, however a screened-in porch is a better value from a financial standpoint and can bring just as much enjoyment and fun, it merely comes down to your preference and your needs.
